UN Vollversammlung

(Säule in St. John)

Am Sonntag sind wir eher zufällig in den Gottesdienst in St. John the Divine geraten ( aus Zeitnot und St. John ist direkt um die Ecke. Wie überhaupt Morningside Heights eine sehr ergiebige Nachbarschaft ist, vieles ist “direkt um die Ecke”: Harlem Apollo Theatre, Riverside Church, NYC Jewish Seminary, Columbia University, General Grant Memorial und eben St. John the Divine,  – wenn sie einmal fertig sein wird DIE grösste Kathedrale der Welt (episkopal).

Es stellte sich heraus, dass hier ein Gottesdienst zur Eröffnung der UN Vollversammlung stattfand. Ziemlich bombastische Musik mit dem UN Philharmonie Orchester (als wir reinkamen dachte ich, ich wäre in den Vorspann eines Hollywood Films geraten) Mässige Predigt, aber ein schönes Lied haben wir gesungen:

“This is my song, O God of all the nations, a song of peace for lands afar and mine. This is my home, the country where my heart is; here are my hopes, my dreams, my holy shrine. But other hearts in other lands are beating with hopes and dreams as true and high as mine.

My country’s skies are bluer than the ocean , and sunlight beams on cloverleaf and pine. But other lands have sunlight too, and clover. And skies are everywhere as blue as mine: O hear my song, thou God of all the Nations, a song of peace for their land and for mine.”
